what studio mode did
We were appointed as concept architect, project manager, and interior designer for this intricate scheme, and saw the project through from inception to delivery. That included briefing, concept design, business case approval, and provision of GA plans, as well as developing a detailed phasing plan to keep the department operational throughout construction.
We then stepped into the project management role—coordinating the detailed design team during the production of working drawings, taking the lead on engagement with the hospital estates team, and securing all necessary approvals. After that, we advised on contractor selection and managed the project on behalf of the hospital during its 8-month on-site delivery, right through to handover and occupation.
Any good then? Ask the kids! Staff certainly have—and the feedback has been outstandingly positive. We set out to do something different: not bringing children into an adult world, but taking adults into a children’s one. We reckon we got it right.
“We are constantly complemented on our lovely department by parents and visiting staff who talk of how cheery, bright and child friendly it is. Thank you so very much for all your hard work and brilliant ideas.”
any tricky bits?
Live department (running a 24-hour out-of-hours emergency service), high-value equipment, children. Yep—plenty to think about. But thanks to an excellent working relationship with both the department and the contractor, we made it all sing.
