the brief
Deliver an engaging, child-friendly makeover for the entrance of a children’s oncology ward — maximising the impact of a modest charity-funded budget.
what studio mode did
Studio Mode were appointed to provide a detailed design solution and arrange for the work to be carried out on site. We worked closely with ward staff to establish the brief and developed a visually enticing, child-friendly interior design scheme.
Given the tight budget, it was clear from the outset that appointing a principal contractor wouldn’t be feasible. Instead, we separated the works into a series of small, manageable packages and took on full responsibility for the sequencing and coordination of each element—from concept and design through to delivery and handover.
Delivered on time and within budget. The users are delighted, the hospital’s happy… and most importantly, the HFEA granted the unit its licence.
“The main entrance has been a huge success for children, their families and staff alike. It’s child friendly, bright and welcoming to all. Every day it is lovely to hear the children playing. Thank you for making and designing it so brilliantly.”
any tricky bits?
Absolutely. Dust control was a critical issue due to the location directly adjacent to a children’s oncology ward. We therefore selected sub-contractors with extreme care, choosing only those who fully understood, or had prior experience of, working in sensitive healthcare environments. The sequencing of works was also key to minimising disruption. Through careful planning, clear communication and strong relationships, the process ran smoothly throughout.
